Writing Notes in Obsidian

If you haven’t discovered Obsidian yet, do take a look. It’s completely free and is a note taking system which connects to a folder on your computer.

A live picture of my linked notes in Obsidian. Every dot is a note and the lines are links between notes.

If you haven’t discovered Obsidian yet, do take a look. It’s completely free and is a note taking system which connects to a folder on your computer. Each note (written in markdown - super easy to learn) can be connected to a second related note by enclosing the title of the second note with square brackets … [your note title].

The magic then happens.

For example say you have a note about software with one sentence that reads: “I have started to use Obsidian and I can see how linking notes together could really help me.” You remember you’ve got another note about linking notes titled with that name. If you now do this: “… how [linking notes] together “, you have created a clickable link to that other note. Obsidian has a knowledge graph which visualises these links which you can click around to explore where you’re think is evolving. That’s mine in the picture. Magic.
